Surf filming FAQ

When is my card charged?

Only once we confirm a filmer, within 24 hours of booking. Until then the amount is held on your card, not taken. If we can't arrange a filmer, the hold is released and you pay nothing.

Can I cancel?

Yes, free of charge up to 48 hours before your session. Reply to the confirmation email and we'll cancel it. If the session was already charged, we refund it.

Why get your surf session filmed?

Surfing happens fast and it's hard to judge your own technique in the water. Watching yourself on video shows how you pop up, where you stand on the board, how you read the wave and when you commit to it, so you can see what to change instead of guessing.

Is surf video analysis useful for beginners?

Yes. Beginners usually learn the most from it, because small habits like a slow pop-up, looking down at the board or standing too far back are easy to see on video and easy to correct once you know about them. Intermediate surfers use it to check bottom turns, speed and positioning in the lineup.

How do I use the footage to improve my surfing?

Watch a few waves at a time and focus on one thing, such as the moment you start your pop-up or where you're looking as you stand. Work on it in your next session and compare. If you're taking surf lessons, share the video with your instructor so they can give you specific feedback. If you don't have one, we recommend Justin West Coaching: send in your footage and get feedback online on what to work on next.

Where can I get filmed surfing in Portugal?

Sessions are available in Ericeira and Costa da Caparica near Lisbon, Baleal and Peniche on the Oeste coast, Sagres and Aljezur in the southwest, and Matosinhos in Porto.

How is this different from hiring a surf photographer or videographer?

A surf photographer or videographer is after the best shot of your best wave. Session filming is about seeing how you surf across the whole session, including the wipeouts and missed waves, which is where most of the learning is.
