Surf filming in Aljezur and the Costa Vicentina

Get your session filmed around Aljezur and watch it back for your own surf video analysis. The Costa Vicentina has some of the least crowded surf in Portugal, which also makes it easier to keep you in frame for a whole session.

Arrifana is the most reliable option. The bay is boxed in by cliffs and stays surfable in winds that blow out the rest of the coast, and the main peak suits most levels, especially around mid-tide.

Monte Clérigo and Amoreira, just north of town, are quieter. The river-mouth sandbar at Amoreira produces long, tapering rights on small to medium swells, and longer rides give you more to review: your trim, your footwork and how you use the whole wave.

Amoreira

At the mouth of the Aljezur river, a sandbar shapes long, tapering rights on small to medium swells. Ideal for longboards and improvers.

Surf filming in Aljezur: FAQ

Where should I get filmed surfing near Aljezur?

Arrifana if it's windy or you want the most consistent option. Amoreira on smaller swells if you ride a longboard or want long rights. Monte Clérigo works best around mid-tide.

When is the best time to surf the Costa Vicentina?

Autumn, from September to November, usually brings warm water, clean groundswell and empty peaks. In summer the north wind picks up by midday, so morning sessions or sheltered Arrifana are the better bet.

Is Arrifana good for beginners?

The main beach break is forgiving and several surf schools teach there. The right-hand point at the south end breaks over boulders and is for experienced surfers only.

How far is Aljezur from Lagos?

About half an hour by car, so the Costa Vicentina beaches are easy to reach if you're staying in Lagos.

Is this the same as hiring a surf videographer in Aljezur?

Not quite. A surf videographer is after the best shot of your best wave. Session filming records how you surf across the whole session, including wipeouts and missed waves, so you can see what to work on.
