Surf filming in Baleal and Peniche

Get your session filmed at Baleal or Peniche and do your own surf video analysis. Seeing your waves back is the fastest way to find out why a pop-up keeps failing or why you keep missing the peak.

Baleal is where most surf schools in the region teach, and it's the easiest place to be filmed if you're still in the whitewater or just starting to ride green waves. The peninsula faces several directions, so there's usually a sheltered side to surf, and someone on the beach can follow you for the whole session.

If you're past that stage, footage from the Peniche side shows what matters on faster waves: how early you get into the wave, whether you set a line or straighten out, and where you sit relative to the peak.

Breaks around Baleal and Peniche

Baleal

Soft, sandy beach breaks on both sides of the peninsula. Good for filming beginners and improvers, because you can review each wave from takeoff to the end of the whitewater.

Supertubos

A fast, hollow beach break that closes out quickly when the banks aren't right. For experienced surfers, video shows whether you're taking off too late or too deep.

Molho Leste

A right-hander at the harbour mouth that handles bigger swells. Useful for reviewing how much of the wall you actually use.

Cantinho da Baía (Lagide)

A sheltered spot that stays clean when the other breaks are blown out, and often the fallback on windy days.

Surf filming in Baleal and Peniche: FAQ

Where is the best place to get filmed surfing in Peniche as a beginner?

Baleal. It breaks softly over sand, surf schools use it every day, and the waves are small enough that a whole session can be reviewed wave by wave.

Can I get filmed surfing at Supertubos?

Yes, if you already surf it. Supertubos isn't a wave to learn on, and it's closed to the public during the Rip Curl Pro in late October, when Baleal and the other breaks are the options.

When is the best time of year to surf and get filmed in Peniche?

Autumn and winter bring the most consistent swell, from October to March. Summer is smaller and suits beginners at Baleal, where the peninsula gives you a sheltered side in most winds.

How far is Peniche from Lisbon?

About 90 minutes by car, and the A8 motorway is the fastest route.

Is this the same as hiring a surf videographer in Baleal and Peniche?

Not quite. A surf videographer is after the best shot of your best wave. Session filming records how you surf across the whole session, including wipeouts and missed waves, so you can see what to work on.
