Surfboard rental in Nazaré
In Nazaré, local surf shops rent surfboards for about €15 to €30 a day, for the everyday waves at the town beach and Praia do Norte outside the giant winter swells. Marola books the boards its partner shops have listed.
Nazaré is famous for 25-metre monsters at Praia do Norte, but for most of the year it's a normal Portuguese beach town with very surfable waves. Summer and early autumn bring fun, punchy peaks to the village beach and Praia do Norte at friendly sizes, with far fewer surfers in the water than Peniche, 40 minutes south.
Marola works with surf shops and schools along this coast, and they list the everyday boards they rent between the big swells. When one of them has a board free for your dates, you book it here and collect it near the beach. The stock, the handover and the advice on which break is working stay with the shop.
Frequently asked questions
Can regular surfers actually surf Nazaré?
Absolutely. Outside the giant winter swells, Praia da Nazaré and Praia do Norte offer normal beach-break surf, and summer days are often chest-high and clean. The canyon only does its dramatic thing on big winter groundswells.
How much does a rental board cost in Nazaré?
Around €15 to €30 a day. Fewer tourists rent here than in Peniche or Ericeira, so availability is good and shops are flexible on multi-day deals.
When should I avoid paddling out in Nazaré?
From late October to March, watch the forecast carefully: swells grow fast and Praia do Norte becomes dangerous well below its record sizes. Ask wherever you rent from; locals know exactly which days are for surfing and which are for spectating from the fort.
